Angel Locsin Rumored as next Maria Mercedes
ABS-CBN is making a remake of the hit Mexican telenovela “Maria Mercedes” and Angel Locsin is rumored to play the lead role.
Maria Mercedes is one of the telenovelas starred by Mexican actress Thalia after Marimar. It’s tagalized version was aired on ABS-CBN in 1996 during the massive popularity of Marimar on RPN 9.
Since ABS-CBN bought the rights to do a Philippine version of the said tv series, fans are now petitioning for Angel Locsin to play the role and no one else.
This will be the second teleserye of Angel Locsin (if ever) after Lobo since her transfer to ABS-CBN. And it could be her very first drama series after being lined-up in various fantaseryes like Mulawin, Darna, Majika and Lobo.
There are reports that Angel will again be paired to her Lobo leading man Piolo Pascual. Piolo will play the role of Jorge Luis del Olmo, Maria Mercedes’ love interest.
The remake is said to be directed by the box-office movie director Cathy Garcia-Molina.
Although this is not yet confirmed, the extended cast for Maria Mercedes are: Cherie Gil as Malvina del Olmo, Edu Manzano as Santiago del Olmo, Nancy Castiliogne as Digna del Olmo, Gina Pareño as Filogonia, Rica Peralejo as Mistica, Ara Mina as Magnolia, Niña Jose as Rosario Muñoz and Zanjoe Marudo as Chicho.
The tentative airing of “Maria Mercedes” on ABS-CBN Primetime Bida is in 2009
